WIN + AvTech Certification Pathway

Accelerated A&P Testing for Transitioning All Branches

WIN, in partnership with AvTech Exams, provides a structured pathway for eligible service members to complete FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification prior to separation.WIN covers the $1,850 A&P preparation course and provides a $70/day lodging stipend for up to 15 days (reimbursed with receipts), while COOL covers the cost of FAA written, oral, and practical exams upon approval. WIN guides each participant through the FAA eligibility process and their branch's military credentialing funding program. For questions related to course scheduling and logistics, candidates should work directly with AvTech Exams.

1. Select Course Date

  • ☐ COOL scheduling window may vary (currently 60–180 days depending on guidance).

  • ☐ Choose a date aligned with your transition timeline

  • ☐ Allow for additional time if retesting is needed

2. Register for Course

☐ Course Name: AV 100 A&P Prep Course: 13 Business Days (If you have FAA authorization for only Airframe or Powerplant, contact WIN before registering to determine the correct course.)

  • ☐ Select COOL funding option

3. Schedule DME

  • ☐ AvTech will assist in scheduling your Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) for the Oral & Practical (O&P) exam and can coordinate testing immediately following your course when possible. While you may schedule your own DME, back-to-back scheduling is recommended to reduce travel costs and keep the material fresh in your mind. It's also best to have your O&P exam dates confirmed before booking lodging.

4. Understand Payment Coverage

  • ☐ WIN covers the $1,850 AvTech Preparation Course .

  • ☐ Military Credentialing Funding (COOL), when approved, covers the FAA Written Exams and applicable Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) fees .

  • ☐ Receive two itemized invoices from AvTech:

  • Invoice #1 → AvTech Preparation Course Tuition (email this invoice to WIN for payment)

  • Invoice #2 → FAA Written Exams & DME Fees (submit this invoice with your Military

5. Submit for Military Credentialing Funding (COOL)

Before submitting your funding request, review the WIN Military Credentialing Funding Guide for your branch of service. The guide provides step-by-step instructions for NAVY COOL, Army Credentialing Assistance (ArmyIgnitED), and AF COOL, including funding requirements, deadlines, and required documentation.

General Steps

  • ☐ Review the WIN Military Credentialing Funding Guide for your branch.

  • ☐ Contact AvTech to request the required itemized invoices for your funding application:

  • Invoice #1 – AvTech Preparation Course

  • Invoice #2 – FAA Written Exams & Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) Fees

  • ☐ Submit your funding request through your branch's credentialing program following the instructions in the WIN Military Credentialing Funding Guide .

  • ☐ Once funding is approved, notify WIN and AvTech so your course registration and FAA testing schedule can be finalized.

6. Arrange Lodging

  • ☐ Review recommended lodging options provided by AvTech.

  • ☐ Book l odging after your O&P exam dates have been confirmed.

  • ☐ Keep all receipts (WIN provides a lodging stipend of $70/day for up to 15 days.)

7. Prepare for Course

  • ☐ Begin studying for the FAA Written Exams using the Prepware Aviation Maintenance App .

8. Attend Course + Testing

  • ☐ Complete the AvTech course

  • ☐ Pass required the written and O&P exams
