Phase 0 — Plain Language Summary

This summary explains Last1’s foundational principles in plain language. It is for homepage trust sections, nonprofit onboarding, and funder reassurance. It does not describe system internals or operational detail—only boundaries and intent.

What Last1 Stands For

Last1 helps nonprofits and funders align around outcomes without adding burden or risk to the people being served. Our foundations are:

  • No mandatory ID for beneficiaries. People receiving services never have to prove who they are to the platform. No government ID, no forced sign-up.
  • Participation is optional. If someone doesn’t respond to a check-in or survey, that’s okay. We don’t treat silence as failure, and we don’t use it against the organization.
  • Validation is layered, not single-point. We look at many kinds of evidence together—what an organization says it does, how it’s structured, how it operates, optional feedback, and continuity over time. No one piece of evidence alone decides anything.
  • Humans decide, not algorithms. Certification and standing are decided by people, with clear process and a chance to respond. We don’t use automation to punish or downgrade organizations.
  • Status is informational, not punitive. If certification status changes, it’s to reflect current standing under our Standards. It’s not a penalty or public shaming. We don’t score or rank organizations.

What We Won’t Do

  • We will not require beneficiaries to verify their identity or to respond to check-ins or surveys.
  • We will not use non-response or silence as a negative signal.
  • We will not score, rank, or publicly shame organizations.
  • We will not let algorithms alone decide certification. People always review and decide.
  • We will not frame what we do as surveillance. Beneficiary engagement is optional and supportive, not monitoring.

Who This Is For

  • Nonprofits: You can use Last1 without forcing the people you serve to sign up, log in, or prove who they are. Your standing doesn’t depend on their responses.
  • Funders: You get a clear, consistent way to understand organizational standing—without scoring or ranking. We don’t change our rules to allow things that would harm beneficiaries or nonprofits, even if requested.
  • Beneficiaries: You are not required to do anything. If you choose to respond to a check-in or survey, that’s optional. If you don’t, nothing bad happens to you or to the organization helping you.
